
A Pennsylvania high school hockey player died after being taken out of a game with a headache and collapsing off the ice.
According to the Philly.com 18-year-old Nick Bond captain of the Wissahickon Skating Club hockey team. He scored a goal in the game and told his coach, who is also his father, that his head was hurting.
Immediately he was rushed to Einstein Medical Center, where he was treated to relieve pressure on his brain. But he was pronounced dead on Monday afternoon (Feb 6).
According to the hospital reports Bond died from complication from blunt impact head and the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s office ruled Bond’s death as an accident.
During the game nobody saw Bond taking a hit on his head nor did he mention that he took a blow to the head.
The club’s president, Kevin Hamel said the skating club was Bond’s second home. He was shy at first, but then he became the amazing young man, who was courageous both on ice and off.
Hamel said that bond was, without question, the epitome of what they wanted most in their children.
Nick Bond was a senior at Springfield High School and he was the youngest of his brothers. His club team had chosen him to be the captain each year and he volunteered to help younger skaters
Rob Bond, father of the deceased is also the assistant coach of the varsity baseball team at the high schools. Margaret Bond his mother is a crossing guard in the school district.
The Bond’s team to remember and honor their teammate will wear stickers on their helmets.
