Pregnant woman charged with aggravated assault on an unborn child

A pregnant woman in Pennsylvania has been charged with aggravated assault on an unborn child after she overdosed on heroin.

The woman's boyfriend told police that he found her unresponsive on a bathroom floor, after he kicked in a door.

Kasey Dischman's boyfriend told police he found her unresponsive on a bathroom floor, after he kicked in a door and took her to a hospital.

In the hospital doctors were left with no option and had to deliver the baby by two months premature.

Police said that after taking the woman to the hospital, they found a needle hidden in the bathroom.

The test reports show that Kasey Dischman tested positive for opioids and alcohol while in hospital when she had to undergo an emergency birth by caesarean section.

Pennsylvania State Police Lieutenant Eric Hermick, said that the baby is “not doing good at all”, after being resuscitated and put on life support.

The baby has been declared brain-dead and if she dies after coming off of life support, Dischman faces a criminal homicide charge.

Police have already decided that once  Dischman gets discharged from the hosiptal, she will face charges of felony aggravated assault of an unborn child.

Police said that Dischman's boyfriend and the father of the child, Andrew Lucas faces charges and allegedly lied to officers about what had happened to Discham.

According to the criminal report, their six-year-old was also in the apartment at the time.

Opioid overdose in Pennsylvania have been immensely increased in recent years, more than quadrupling since 2010, according to a new report.

The statistics did not include those taken to hospital and revived in or before arriving at the emergency department.
