According to the official operations of 14 state owned universities in Pennsylvania are being reviewed in the light of falling enrollment and financial challenges, a move is being considered that could result in merging come campuses or closing them.
Chancellor Frank Brogan said that the State System of Higher Education’s current operations are not sustainable.
Frank Brogan made the announcement on Thursday (26 January) in Harrisburg during the annual state of the system" address.
The state system of Higher Education is one of the largest public university systems in the United States. State funding, $444 million last year, is about the same as it was 17 years ago.
The system's total enrollment is about 100,000 students at schools including Bloomsburg, Shippensburg and West Chester universities, among others.
It is still unclear that how long the review can take. The approval of Legislative is required to merge or close any of the schools.
