A missing Pennsylvania landfill worker found dead, he was buried in a mound of garbage and dirt slid down onto him.
Pennsylvania State Trooper Bruce Morris said that 49-year-old William Pierce’s body was found Friday afternoon (February 10th) under roughly 40 feet of trash at the Greentree Landfill in Kersey.
The victim was driving a garbage compactor when trash slid down and covered the machine Wednesday.
The Elk County Coroner Michelle Muccio said victim likely died of blunt force trauma to the head, but the official cause will not be determined until the Saturday’s (11 Feb) autopsy.
According to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection records show that the landfill was fined in the year 2015 for not being designed in a way to prevent hazards.
It was still unclear what those hazards were, but a spokesperson for the owner of landfill Advanced Disposal said that was not believed to be related to Wednesday’s accident.
