Pennsylvania joins other states to protest Immigration ban

Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced that Pennsylvania has joined with the other 16 states that are questioning the constitutionality of President Donald Trump’s controversial decision for an immigration ban from seven Muslim majority countries

Shapiro led the multi-state effort, According to s statement on the Attorney General's website; the 17 states together have issued a joint statement condemning the immigration ban as un-American."

The joint statement said “As the chief legal officers for more than 131 million American people and foreign residents of our states, we condemns President’s unconstitutional, un-American and unlawful Executive order will work together to ensure the federal government obeys the Constitution and respect the United States history as a nation of immigrants and does not unlawfully target anyone because of their national origin or faith.”

Fortunately a federal judge on 28th January (Saturday) stopped the deportation of immigrant’s travelers who were detained at airports across the United States by partially halting the enforcement of the executive order.

The ruling came in response to a challenge filed on behalf of two Iraqi men who were detained on 27th January (Friday night) at JFK International Airport and impacted up to 200 others, who were held across the country.

Governor Wolf thinks others can speak to the legal issues far better than him, but as a Pennsylvanian and an American, this is not who we are. Pennsylvania is a place of welcome. The United States is set up to be a place where people can escape oppression. Not a place where people come to experience oppression

He spoke as a Pennsylvanian and as an American – this family has done great things for Allentown in Pennsylvania.

Governor Wolf said it is a dark day for all of us that the Assali’s family was treated this way. Governor said he will do everything he can to help bring their loved ones to Pennsylvania.
