Gautam Gambhir has been contacted by the IPL team Rajasthan Royals to take on the roles of CEO, mentor, and partner. Gambhir, who has won the World Cup twice, is now working as the head coach of the Indian men's cricket team. A report from Dainik Jagran states that the 2008 IPL champions, RR, are changing ownership and one of the new three owners has offered Gambhir a small shareholding – estimated to be around 2-3 percent – in the team. Gambhir has a strong record in the IPL as both a player and a mentor. He played a key role in Kolkata Knight Riders winning the IPL three times – twice as the captain and once as a mentor. Furthermore, during his time with Lucknow Super Giants, also as a mentor, the team finished third in the standings and made it to the playoffs.
However, it seems unlikely Gambhir will join the team right now due to his current role with the Indian men’s cricket team. According to a ruling by the Supreme Court based on recommendations from the Lodha Committee, one person cannot be involved with the Indian team and also hold a role with an IPL franchise (like mentor, partner, or advisor) at the same time, as this creates a conflict of interest. If Gambhir chooses to accept the RR position, he would need to resign as head coach of India. Reports indicate that Gambhir’s contract with the Indian team extends until the 2027 ODI World Cup, and he remains dedicated to the national squad. While he is currently focused on India defending their title in the ongoing 2026 T20 World Cup, where they have advanced to the Super 8 stage, it is also anticipated that he will lead when cricket is included in the Olympics again in the T20 format at the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
