How to protect kids from eye vision problems

It is always wise to ensure that your Child's eyesight is fine before sending him/her to school.

It is a common phenomenon for children to experience eye problems while attending the schools.

Almost every parent shouts at the children to stay away from watching the television for long time and even try to convince them to eat green veggies daily.

All this is done just to protect the eyesight of their children in the tender age itself.

Some of the most common eye problems being faced by children attending schools these days include nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism.

Children who go to school regularly need a proper vision like vision acuity, eye tracking, recognition, visual perception, eye hand coordination and others.

Signs of eye problems

It becomes stressful for every child to focus of writing and reading when they have an eyesight problem.

Watch for this sign in your kids.

It will become difficult for them to remember and concentrate on things that they have studied.

How much ever the children try, the efficacy becomes compromised.

Some other symptoms that indicate that your child might be having eye problems include

Headache

Covering an eye to focus during reading

Reluctance to read.

Holding books too close to be able to read.

Complaining about discomfort.

Missing some lines while reading.

Seeing double inplace of single.

If your child is showing any of these signs, it is high time you have taken him to an ophthalmologist.

Early detection of eyesight in children can prevent further vision loss in them.

Eye exams

To equip your children to write and read better, take them to regular eye check ups to ensure their vision is fine.

A vision screening test would not be enough to check their vision ability.

A comprehensive eye test must be done and keep in mind that a 20/20 result doesn't mean everything is fine.

Sometimes, even with 20/20 children find it difficult to read.

Studies show that almost 61 percent students who have eye problems don't even visit a doctor.

Vision correction

Most common practice used by the doctors yo correct the eye vision is by administering eye glasses, lenses or vision therapy.

When children are exposed to Sun, make sure you cover their eyes with sunglasses.

Sometimes, during childhood, the vision intensity tends to fluctuate which leads to eye problems. You must take care of that.

Things to do to protect your child's eyes

It is important for you as parents to pay adequate attention as this will affect their future as well.

Despite the doctor's efforts, you must also ensure certain practices for the wellbeing of the child.

Here are some of the steps you can do:

  • Make them avoid excessive use of gadgets.
  • Restrict the duration of television.
  • Wear sunglasses when exposed to the Sun.
  • Avoid exposing your children to harsh lights.
  • Maintain a balanced and healthy diet.
  • Make them do eye exercises.
